Job Description

The Commercial Litigation Legal Assistant supports attorneys in managing complex business-related litigation matters. This role involves document preparation, case management, research, and coordination with clients, courts, and opposing counsel to ensure efficient case progression.


Key Responsibilities

Case Management & Support

  • Assist attorneys with all phases of commercial litigation, from pre-filing through trial and appeal
  • Maintain case files (electronic and physical) and ensure documents are organized and up to date
  • Track deadlines, court dates, and filing requirements using calendaring systems
  • Coordinate with clients, witnesses, experts, and opposing counsel

Document Preparation & Filing

  • Prepare, format, and proofread legal documents including complaints, answers, motions, discovery requests, and correspondence
  • Process and file legal documents with state and federal courts (including e-filing systems)
  • Manage document production, including compiling exhibits and preparing binders for hearings and trials

Discovery & Research

  • Assist with discovery processes, including drafting and responding to interrogatories, requests for production, and subpoenas
  • Organize, review, and summarize documents and case materials
  • Conduct basic legal and factual research as directed

Trial Preparation

  • Support attorneys in trial preparation, including organizing exhibits, witness lists, and trial notebooks
  • Coordinate logistics for depositions, hearings, and trials
  • Assist during trial with document management and administrative tasks

Administrative Duties

  • Manage attorney schedules and coordinate meetings
  • Handle client communications in a professional manner
  • Prepare billing entries, expense reports, and time tracking
